Training Overview

Annual Radiation Safety Refresher Training at the University of Rochester has two components.

1.  Computer-based refresher modules covering basic radiation safety topics

2.  A test on those topics covered within the radiation refresher modules

All radiation workers are required to take an initial radiation safety class and then meet annual refresher testing requirements.

Radiation Basics Modules

There are four computer-based training modules:

These modules provide information on the following topics:
  • the basic characteristics of  radiation, including the properties of various radioactive emissions
  • half-life
  • radiation units
  • natural background and other sources of radiation exposure
  • the biological effects of radiation exposure
  • the risks of radiation exposure
  • rules and regulations
  • the administration of the radiation safety program at the University of Rochester

  • Radiation Refresher Course Test

Once you have read through the refresher training modules, you will obtain access to the online test. After completing the online test you will receive an immediate grade and results page. To complete your annual refresher training requirement you must print the results page out (make sure your name and contact information is clearly indicated on the page) and mail it to the Radiation Safety Office (Box HPH).
